
Three students from Lindbergh High School recently earned a perfect ACT score of 36, the highest possible score on the ACT college placement exam. Lindbergh seniors William “Liam” Goddard, Carson Kienzler and Cindy Yao each earned a perfect score on the ACT earlier this year. A perfect ACT score of 36 is quite an accomplishment. Less than one percent of students who take the test nationwide attain a perfect score.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office named an honorary member to the department at the Mid-Buchanan homecoming game Friday. Blake Templeton, a 16-year-old Mid-Buchanan student diagnosed with cerebral palsy and other medical issues, has wanted to be a police officer since he was 4 years old. A new, furry buddy at Warren E. Hearnes Elementary is helping to make students' days brighter. The first therapy dog in the history of the Charleston school is 100% certified. According to Hearnes Elementary administrator Amy Smotherman, who introduced Georgia to students on Sept. 14, the youngsters at the lower elementary school already adore Georgia. Georgia acquired her American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Certification and finished a year of training to prepare her to work with students at the school, according to Smotherman. Georgia is also specifically certified as a therapy dog.

A Belton High School senior is in the running for a major prize. Conner Sisemore is a finalist in an international science video competition called the Breakthrough Junior Challenge. Middle school is a time of excitement and change, and Willard Middle School students have an extra staff member to help with the transition. He is extra furry and has four legs. “Archie is a six-year-old Newfoundland dog. He started coming to school with me when he was 12 weeks old and he is a therapy dog,” says 8th Grade Science Teacher Sarah McDowell. “He comes to school with me and he’s here for all the kids to be able to release their energy into and calm them down.”
Archie was present during the Willard Middle School registration, wandering the halls and offering support. He will be present during the school year as well.

Students and parents from across Columbia came to Lange Middle School Saturday for the Rise Initiative's annual Back To School Bash. Chelsea Tornetto's last day of teaching world geography at Jackson's Russel Hawkins Junior High School in June was also the first day of her new career as a full-time author.

In the search to find teachers, Missouri schools are finding unique solutions. Eric Arnold is a former science teacher turned administrator.
