Jonathan Russell, a school board member from the Neosho School District, is the new president of the Missouri School Boards’ Association. Russell became MSBA president at the conclusion of the 2024 MSBA Summer Summit held June 24 in Branson. He has served as vice president of MSBA for the past year.

In remarks at the Summer Summit, Russell told school board members that one of his areas of focus for the coming year will be improving literacy scores. “Investing in literacy education is an investment in the future. We need to make sure our students are prepared to lead. To make that future a reality though, we have to make sure our students are supported both in and out of the classroom.” he said.

Shelly Mantel, a school board member in the Mountain View-Birch Tree R-III School District was elected president-elect by the MSBA Delegate Assembly. Paula Hubbert, a school board member in the Bolivar R-I School District was elected vice president of MSBA.
